Electric Heating Wire
Nichrome Wire | High-Temperature Heating Material, Properties, Applications, and Selection Guide
What is nickel-chromium wire?
Nickel-chromium wire is a high-resistance alloy wire made primarily of nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr). It possesses excellent high-temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, and stable resistance characteristics, and is therefore widely used in various heating equipment and industrial heating elements.
Because a dense oxide film forms on the surface of nickel-chromium wire at high temperatures, it can effectively protect the internal metal and extend its service life, making it one of the most common electric heating materials.
Main characteristics of nickel-chromium wire
01.Excellent high-temperature resistance
Nickel-chromium wire can operate in high-temperature environments for extended periods, and depending on the alloy composition, it can withstand operating temperatures of approximately 1000°C to 1200°C.
02.Good oxidation resistance
When used at high temperatures, a stable chromium oxide protective layer forms on the surface of the nickel-chromium wire, which reduces the oxidation rate and improves durability.
03.High resistivity
Compared to ordinary metal wires, nickel-chromium wire has a higher resistance value, which can quickly convert electrical energy into heat energy when current flows through it, making it very suitable as a heating element.
04.Stable resistance characteristics
Even when used in high-temperature environments for extended periods, the resistance change remains relatively stable, which helps improve temperature control accuracy.
05.Good processing performance
Nickel-chromium wire can be processed into the following forms as needed:
- linear
- Spiral
- Spring type
- Coil type
- Custom heating elements
It can be easily integrated into various types of equipment.
Common specifications of nickel-chromium wire
Nickel-chromium wire is available in various sizes and materials to meet different needs.

Nickel-chromium wire FAQ
What is the highest temperature that nickel-chromium wire can withstand?
Depending on the material, it can generally withstand temperatures of approximately 1000°C to 1200°C. The actual maximum operating temperature depends on the product specifications and the environment in which it is used.
Can nickel-chromium wire be cut by hand?
Yes, but cutting will change the total length and resistance, which will affect the heating power. Therefore, the electrical parameters should be recalculated before use.
Will nickel-chromium wire rust?
It has good corrosion resistance under normal conditions, and an oxide protective layer will form on the surface at high temperatures, which can effectively extend its service life.
Are nickel-chromium wires suitable for prolonged heating?
Yes. Nickel-chromium wire has stable resistance characteristics and excellent heat resistance. As long as it is used according to the design conditions, it can operate stably for a long time.
